White Pass & Yukon Route

The gold rush that built this railroad barely lasted a few years. But the railroad outlived it by more than a century — hauling ore through most of the 1900s, shutting down in the 80s, and then coming back to life in 1988 as one of the most scenic train rides anywhere in the world. Nobody who rides this train is looking for gold anymore. But it's easy to see why people still can't stop looking out the window.
