He was despised - Hilary Summers (2 performances - 30y interval!)

Contralto Hilary Summers in two live performances of "He was despised" from 'Messiah'. The first is from 1993 and the second from August 2023. Considering the difference in conducting styles and also the pitch used, the recordings reveal the voice to be remarkably untouched by the years. A tribute to a solid technique, knowing what music your voice serves well and having the wisdom to avoid music unsuited to your instrument. The second performance is followed by hearty applause, which I have never heard before in a "Messiah"...!
