Antique Stanley Bailey No. 27 Transitional Plane Restoration

There may be hundreds of hand plane restorations on YouTube, but there can never be too many! Please consider subscribing if you like what I do. As I am new to both restoration and making YouTube videos, please comment your suggestions and feedback so I can produce better content. This is a Stanley Bailey No. 27 transitional jack plane from the early 1900's. I found it in poor condition at an antique store in rural Pennsylvania for about $8. The stock was cracked, the adjusting nut was missing (I ended up getting a replacement one on eBay, so ignore the one shown at the beginning from the other plane), and the entire plane was covered in rust and 100 years of grime. I did my best to clean and restore to a beautiful but functional condition without destroying the beauty from years of use. This was also my first attempt at replicating the original type of enamel coating, typically called "Japanning," and I was very impressed with the results. Thanks to Hand Tool Rescue for the inspiration and for the detailed recipe and instructions on this process. I followed his directions almost exactly, and I loved this process. I do so love the sound of a sharp hand plane carving away shavings. Unfortunately, I don't currently have the right tools to repair and sharpen the edge of the iron properly, so that will have to wait. Maybe one day I can make a video of sharpening this and my other hand planes that I will be restoring.
