363.
That is the number that stayed with us after visiting Khejarli in Rajasthan.
In 1730, Amrita Devi Bishnoi and hundreds of other Bishnois stood against the cutting of Khejri trees. What followed became one of the most powerful stories of sacrifice for nature in India’s history.
363 Bishnois lost their lives protecting the trees they considered part of their way of life.
We came to Khejarli to understand what happened here.
But this wasn’t just a history lesson.
It made us ask a much bigger question:
What would you be willing to sacrifice to protect something you believe in?
This is another chapter of 100 DAYS OF FREEDOM — a journey across India to meet people, discover forgotten stories and understand what freedom really means.
Some people collect places.
We collect stories. ❤️
