In the eighth episode of People Policy Precedent (PxPxP), we sit down with Mr. Sanjay Singh, Senior Advocate at the Patna High Court, where we explore the larger questions facing the Indian judiciary today. In this conversation, he also shares the four mantras of legal practice he inherited from his father and reflects on why advocacy is a great profession.
The podcast also examines the social changes in Bihar, asking whether society is shaped more by ideals or by people, and how Supreme Court judgments are implemented differently across states. We raise the critical question: Has the judiciary become more disposal-oriented instead of justice-oriented?
Other issues we touch upon include:
The grey areas in the judicial system
Why ADRs are not succeeding
The importance of inter-court appeals and LPA jurisdiction
The absence of clear guidelines for mentioning matters
And why the Patna High Court has three different lawyers’ associations
This episode goes beyond individual cases to explore the structural, cultural, and philosophical challenges of the Indian legal system, offering invaluable insights for law students, young lawyers, and anyone interested in the state of justice in India.
