At 70, I started dating again—not because I was in love, but because I was afraid of being alone.
People told me it was the right thing to do.
That I deserved companionship.
That no one should grow old alone.
So I listened.
Eight months later, I learned a painful truth:
you can share a house, a bed, even daily conversations… and still feel completely alone.
I wasn’t afraid of loneliness anymore.
I was afraid of settling.
Being with the wrong person made me miss the peace I once had by myself.
And that’s when I understood something most people don’t say out loud:
loneliness isn’t about being alone.
It’s about being unseen.
This is why I chose not to date again.
And if you’re choosing someone out of fear instead of wholeness…
you may want to rethink that too.
