Pinky… 45 (While talking)… Shivani bahu (daughter-in-law), what happened? You are sweeping outside the house today; where has your mother-in-law gone? Is everything alright?
Shivani… 24 (With a calm expression)… Yes, Kaki (Aunt), everything is fine. It’s just that Papa isn't feeling too well. He was feeling uneasy, so Mummy is sitting with him. I thought I’d just do the chores myself. Pinky (45, explaining): "Oh yes, dear, you did the right thing. We’re getting old now, after all. You’re the one who has to shoulder all the responsibilities. The sooner you realize this, the better."
Narration: Pinky, the neighbor, chats with Shivani for a while and then steps inside the house to check on Rajesh. Everyone is sitting together, conversing.
Sarla (55, affectionately): "Pinky, you’re hardly ever seen these days. I was actually wondering if you’d moved to the city to live with Ritik."
Pinky (45, explaining): "Yes, Ritik insists on it quite a bit. We went to visit him last week. But honestly, once someone has lived in a village, they just don't feel at home in the city."
Sarla (55, agreeing): "Yes, you’re absolutely right about that. The houses in the city are so small—it feels suffocating—and on top of that, no one really visits. Unlike now, with you coming over to our place here in the neighborhood."
Narration: Everyone is sitting there, chatting away. Just then, a momo vendor arrives in the street.
Momo Vendor (40, calling out): "Get your momos! Momos with green vegetables! Fresh green vegetable momos! Spicy, delicious momos!"
Narration: As soon as the vendor's voice reaches the children's ears, Pinky’s grandson, Golu, comes running into the house.
Golu (10, insisting): "Dadi, I want to eat momos too. Give me the money, quick!"
Narration: Everyone laughs at Golu’s words, and Pinky has to give in and head home. Pinky goes and gives him the money, and Golu happily eats the momos.
Guddan (21) (insistently): "Mom, give me some money too. I want to eat momos as well."
Sarla (55) (scoldingly): "Why are you acting like a child and insisting on this? Just quietly eat whatever has been cooked at home. Understood?"
Rajesh (60) (laughing): "I don't know what it is about these momos that these kids love so much. What is so special about them, anyway, that everyone keeps raving about them?"
Narration... Just then, Rohan arrives from outside.
Rohan (26) (affectionately): "Dad, just try the momos once. You’ll become a fan of them too."
Rajesh (60) (jokingly): "If that’s the case, then you bring some momos for me."
Narration... Hearing this, Rohan starts thinking.
Rohan (26) (to himself): "This time, I’ll save up money throughout the month and definitely treat Dad and everyone else at home to paneer momos."
Narration... Rohan is lost in these thoughts when Aryan speaks up.
Aryan (23) (surprised): "Brother, what are you thinking about? Don't you have to go to work today?"
Shivani (24) (affectionately): "Here, I’ve packed your lunch boxes. Make sure to eat on time."
Narration... Both young men pick up their lunch boxes and leave for work. Rajesh's sons work for a farmer. Meanwhile, Guddan works as a cleaner at a government school. Everyone heads off to their respective jobs. Shivani finishes the household chores. This is how the family's days go by. One evening... Everyone is sitting in the courtyard.
Rajesh (60, looking distressed): My mouth tastes awful from constantly taking medicines. Nothing tastes good anymore.
Sarla (55, reassuringly): Medicines do tend to ruin the taste in one's mouth. Shivani, dear, do one thing—make something delicious today.
Aryan (23, happily): Mom, you took the words right out of my mouth! I’ve been craving something spicy and flavorful too.
Shivani (24, happily): If that’s the case, just give me a little while. I’ll whip up something tasty.
Narration: Saying this, Shivani walks into the kitchen.
