Welcome to this elementary Mandarin class. I am Sisi Laoshi.
The predicate of pivotal sentence is made up of two verbal phrases. The object of the first verb is also the subject of the second verb.
叫jiào to ask it often appear in oral mandarin
妈妈叫我去买一些水果。Māma jiào wǒ qù mǎi yìxiē shuǐguǒ. Mum asked me to go to buy some fruit.
让ràng to let, allow
你让我想一想。Nǐ ràng wǒ xiǎng yì xiǎng. (you)Let me think about it.
请qǐng and 让ràng both have the meaning of “ask somebody to do something”. 请used in a formal situation and sounds polite.
我请经理帮助你。Wǒ qǐng jīnglǐ bāngzhù nǐ. I will let manage help you.
请also have the meaning of “invite”
我请你吃饭。 Wǒ qǐng nǐ chīfàn. in a restaurant setting, it means I will pay for the bill.
