A drone shoot at an industrial site turns into a long standoff with security staff and police, and an officer threatens to arrest him over data protection. Later in the video, officers on scene say he has committed no crime and that they have no power over him.
The footage begins outside Trillium Flow Technologies, where security tells the filmmaker he can't film and points to the public highway as the boundary. He moves to public land and prepares to fly a sub-250 drone. A man from the site approaches him, a 999 call is made, and police arrive to find out what is going on.
The officers' claims about data protection, surveillance, deleting footage, and fines are all made on camera. The officer then tells him he could be arrested for breach of data protection, and he asks what law that would be under. Later, a second officer arrives and discusses operator ID, trespass, and airspace, and officers tell the site's staff that what he is doing is legal.
What to watch for in this video:
The difference between filming from public land and filming private property
Whether data protection law was properly explained to him
Whether anyone on screen cites a specific law
How the officers' positions change over the course of the encounter
The drone airspace and trespass discussion
The legal points in this video are claims made by the people on screen, not verified legal advice. Check current UK law and CAA drone rules before relying on any of them.
