A lot of fans are saying that there's reason to believe why Shin Sawada and Yankumi were behaving like lovesick couples in Gokusen 1. Perhaps, the original plot meant for them to end up together. Hpwever, with the popularity of the show, they may have thought it would be awkward or limiting for the story's plot if they make them end up together because they wanted the audience to assume Yabuki and Yankumi also have a thing between them.
