The Dombodzvuku family says it has US$1,000 available towards the burial of Portia Dzanwa, but the amount falls short of the US$2,400 being requested by the Dzanwa family.
Portia, a police officer, was fatally shot by her husband on Sunday, 16 August, leaving her family devastated and struggling to come to terms with the loss.
The Dzanwa family says it needs at least US$2,400 from the Dombodzvuku family to meet the costs of burying Portia.
However, the Dombodzvuku family says it currently has only US$1,000, which it says is not enough to cover the burial expenses.
The financial dispute has added to the pain surrounding Portia’s death, as both families face the difficult task of preparing for her burial while dealing with grief.
The Dzanwa family has also said the Dombodzvuku family should settle the remaining payment after the burial. According to the family, this is important to ensure that the matter is resolved and to avoid what they fear could bring misfortune to Portia’s children and the children of the Dombodzvuku family.
For Portia’s relatives, the issue goes beyond money. They say they are mourning a daughter, granddaughter and mother whose life was tragically cut short, leaving the family with deep emotional pain as they struggle to give her a dignified farewell.
