Presenting the Hanumat Kavacha–Stotra–Yantra Mahima from the Śrī Parāśara Saṃhitā, 78th Paṭala, preserved within the Parāśara–Maitreya dialogue. The chapter itself concludes with the title कवचस्तोत्रयन्त्रमहिमादिवर्णनम्, describing the kavacha, stotra, yantra and their traditional significance.
The chapter begins with Parashara recounting a sacred dialogue between Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Parvati asks how people frightened by different kinds of danger may obtain protection. Shiva then reveals a secret Hanuman kavacha, describing Hanuman as his own powerful manifestation, the mighty Ramaduta, born for the protection of the world.
The text first gives instructions for purification, mantra-nyasa and meditation before the kavacha is recited.
The Dhyana
Hanuman is contemplated as:
• radiant like the rising sun
• peaceful and divinely adorned
• wearing a sacred kaupina, ornaments and yajñopavita
• born from the womb of Anjana
• a manifestation of Rudra
• Ramaduta — the messenger of Sri Rama
• Bhaktanam Bhayaharta — remover of the fear of devotees
The Hanuman Kavacha
The kavacha then establishes Hanuman as protector of the directions:
• Anjana’s beloved son in the East
• the destroyer of Lanka’s palace in the Southeast
• Kesari’s son in the South
• the mighty Vanara Lord in the Southwest
• Vayuputra in the West
• Sugriva’s minister in the Northwest
• Rudra’s manifestation in the North
• Sri Ramaduta in the Northeast
It then extends that protection above, below, through the atmosphere, externally and internally, before invoking Hanuman over the devotee’s head, eyes, ears, nose, tongue, throat, shoulders, arms, heart, waist, thighs, knees, legs, feet and the entire body.
The text explicitly prays for protection in situations such as:
• danger and difficult terrain
• night and twilight
• water and fire
• forests, mountains and caves
• thieves and hostile situations
• poisonous creatures
• malevolent beings and frightening dreams
• weapons, imprisonment and physical danger
• mental confusion and negligence
The Phalaśruti
Unlike many prayers where later popular claims are added, this text itself contains an extensive phalashruti.
The same section also contains traditional ritual claims concerning illness, fertility, attraction, prosperity and other worldly goals. These statements belong to the scriptural ritual context of the text and should not be treated as guaranteed medical, financial or personal outcomes from simply listening to the recording.
A second protective kavacha
After the first phalashruti, Shiva introduces another, even more secret kavacha:
हनुमान् पातु मे नित्यं...
This second section again invokes Hanuman over the entire body and concludes by saying that contemplation, japa and worship of this divine kavacha are traditionally connected with the growth of śrī, vidyā and āyus — prosperity, knowledge and life.
The Yantra section
The final portion is especially unusual.
The chapter provides instructions for constructing a 25-cell protective yantra, writing the mantra in its sections, and preparing it traditionally on substances such as gold, silver, copper, palm leaf or birch bark. The text then discusses its ritual use and concludes with directions involving japa, homa and tarpana.
This makes the chapter much broader than a normal Hanuman Kavach. It is a complete ritual sequence combining:
Dhyana + Nyasa + Kavacha + Phalashruti + Second Kavacha + Yantra Mahima
Source note
The text is preserved online under the title Kavachayantra Prabhava Kathanam / Hanumat Kavacha Stotra Yantra Mahima, explicitly marked as belonging to the Parashara Samhita. A scanned Hanuma Charitra / Parashara Samhita edition is also preserved in the Internet Archive.
This should not be confused with other well-known Hanuman Kavachas from the Narada Purana, Sudarshana Samhita, or Panchamukhi Hanuman traditions, which contain different texts and structures.
Practice note: Because this chapter includes nyasa, mantra, yantra, homa and specialised ritual instructions, devotional listening is different from undertaking the full prescribed sadhana. Formal ritual practice is best learned through a competent traditional teacher.
AI pronunciation note: This presentation uses AI-assisted music and vocals. The Sanskrit contains difficult compounds and ritual terminology, so minor pronunciation variations may occur.
May Sri Hanuman surround every sincere devotee with courage, clarity and unwavering remembrance of Sri Rama.
