Two NFL officials were suspended on the same weekend for the first time since
1968, in a week when 255 penalties were called across fourteen games - and
Frank Zaccanelli says you have to at least ask the question.
Frank Zaccanelli - former Dallas Mavericks president, general manager and
minority owner - and Sarah Strackhouse go through what the league actually did
and why the timing of it matters.
Line judge Jeff Seeman got two games for cursing at Cardinals tight end Trey
McBride. Referee Adrian Hill got one game after contact with Vikings linebacker
Eric Wilson. Both clips are on the show. The NFLPA's JC Tretter said players get
held accountable when the roles are reversed and officials should be held to
the same standard.
Then Frank sets it against the week's numbers. 255 penalties over fourteen
games is the most in over a decade. Two officials suspended in one weekend had
not happened since 1968. And there are billions of dollars bet on this sport
every day. He is careful about where he stops - "I just hope to God that's not
the case" - but he says the league has been in denial on the subject and is
going to have to address it, and he points out something most people do not
know about how officials are employed.
Also on the show: Monday night, Lamar Jackson's ankle and six quarterbacks
down, Coco Gauff, Sophie Cunningham and the Washington ballot measure, Alex
Ovechkin's last season, Deion Sanders daring the press to write it, and a
broadcaster hired and fired on the same day.
