Everybody Saw Me Lose is an original soulful blues song from Stoic Blues, with deep male vocals and expressive electric guitar. A story about public defeat, honest reflection and the quiet work of beginning again.
🌙 ABOUT THE SONG
The other man's hand goes up. There is no excuse to hide behind. A handshake, a conversation with his son and a replay in the trainer's office turn defeat into something he can learn from.

📖 LYRICS
They raised his hand beneath the strip lights.
I kept my eyes below his chin.
My corner cut the tape in silence.
The crowd was gathering by the ring
around the man who'd caught me reaching.
I heard somebody call my name.
I wanted them to blame the judging.
I wanted anything but shame.
Everybody saw me lose.
Saw my legs forget the floor.
Saw the man I'd said I'd beat
standing steady by the ropes.
Nothing I could say would change it.
I had no good excuse.
I walked across and shook his hand.
Everybody saw me lose.
My boy was waiting by the changing room,
his paper cup held in both hands.
He asked me if the other man had cheated.
I said, "No. He had a better plan."
We ate our sandwiches in the motor,
too much mustard, getting cold.
He told me something from his classroom.
For a while, I let him talk.
Everybody saw me lose.
Saw my legs forget the floor.
Saw the man I'd said I'd beat
standing steady by the ropes.
Nothing I could say would change it.
I had no good excuse.
I walked across and shook his hand.
Everybody saw me lose.
When the bruises quit their burning
and my trainer cleared me through,
we watched the round I'd tried to hurry,
stopped it where I dropped my guard.
No cheering in that little office.
Just his pencil and the screen.
Everybody saw me lose.
Hardly anybody saw
the slow steps by the mirror,
learning where I'd gone too far.
I wasn't owed a better ending.
There was work that I could do.
I asked him, "Run that round again."
Everybody saw me lose.
He turned the picture back.
I pulled my chair in close.
