Zanac x Zanac (PS1) - 001

Zanac X Zanac is a 2001 PlayStation exclusive from Compile that packs in three versions of the original 1986 Zanac alongside a brand new entry called Zanac Neo, and it turned out to be the last game Compile ever made before declaring bankruptcy, which gives it a bittersweet swan song energy. Going in completely blind on this one and pleasantly surprised to find it mostly in English despite being a Japan only release. Compile built their reputation on some of the most intense and innovative shoot em ups ever made, and this is a fitting if melancholy sendoff from a studio that genuinely deserved better than the ending they got.
