"Not Me" is a public confession disguised as mockery. The narrator isn't a rebel without a cause — he's someone exhausted from performing an identity that was never his. Every verse is a scene from Brazilian daily life where he has to act: the barbecue, the match, the neighbor's samba, the dinner with MPB in the background. The humor comes from exactly that — he doesn't hate Brazil, he just doesn't recognize himself in the complete kit that comes with the passport. Brasília rock from the eighties had exactly that voice. It wasn't São Paulo rock, which drew more from American pop. It wasn't Rio rock, which flirted with MPB. It was something drier, angrier, more political — born in an artificial, planned city where everyone had come from somewhere else and nobody quite knew what it meant to be from there. Capital Inicial, Legião Urbana, Plebe Rude — all those bands spoke about belonging, identity and displacement. This lyric lives in exactly that territory. The difference is that here the tone is comedic — but intelligent comedy. The chicken heart that ends in vomiting, the Ibis as an emergency answer, the pale ale ordered in the middle of the national anthem — these are images that get a laugh but leave a residue. Because deep down everyone has pretended to like something just to fit in. This song just had the courage to put that in a chorus.
