One cloth. Many names. One people. Kente is celebrated across the world, but the hand-weaving knowledge behind it is carried by fewer hands each generation. The Hands That Remember sits with Kente weavers in Accra to hear what the cloth means, what is at risk, and what it will take for the next generation to pick up the thread. In Ewe, it is Kete: “ke” to open, “te” to press. Open and compress, the motion of the loom itself. With the voices of Richard Tamakloe and Ebenezer Badu, Kente weavers, Accra Arts District. Featuring Paulina Gawu, who also conducted the interviews. Garment design and research: Angella Conney aka Purple Cutz. Produced by Anthony Larbi. Original score: Aaron Djan Koranteng. A Motherland Pictures production, from Motherland, creative studios in Accra and London. Animated sequences created with AI tools, directed by Motherland Pictures. Made for the Threads of Africa Fashion Film Prize 2026 (Elevate Africa), theme: Stories of Rebirth.
