Akihabara at dusk, and a walk up the hill to Kanda Myojin. The walk starts on Chuo-dori, crosses to Manseibashi Bridge and the old red-brick railway arches over the Kanda River, then turns back into Electric Town. From there it leaves the main street: under the tracks, past game arcades, capsule toys, junk shops and vending machines - and one wooden izakaya that has stayed exactly where it was while everything around it turned to neon. Ten minutes on foot from all of that, across Route 17, is Kanda Myojin - the shrine that has watched over this part of Tokyo for some 1,300 years. The lanterns were just coming on. The last minute is after dark, at Hijiribashi Bridge in Ochanomizu. This is the longest walk on this channel so far.
