We visited last year, so we stayed on-board and enjoyed some of the popular venues while they were less busy, including the pool areas up on deck 16. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid was playing on the big screen. Swimming in the main pool. The adults only pool was even quieter. 01:35 Poolside Lunch & Guest Services We stayed by the main pool for lunch eating Pizza and Burgers. I thought they were OK, Kathryn loved the burgers but thought the Pizza was nothing special. I was interested in trying the wine tasting event. The listing said there was a nominal charge. I went to guest services opposite Sabatini’s hoping someone would give a rough idea. Nope, he had to call a Princess information line where we were kept on hold for several minutes while he carried on with his work. Eventually I got the information… How much do you think a nominal charge would be? The normal cost of a glass of wine $5? The princess cost of a glass of wine $15? Nope it was over twice that! So, I didn’t go. 02:25 Day 5: Eclipse Day Day 5 was eclipse day and we had until the evening to find some clear skies and we heard later in the cruise how the captain and crew had worked so hard to get us there. Here we are mid afternoon leaving the cloudy skies of the coast to the clear skies out to sea. We had bought our eclipse glasses beforehand but there was no need because Princess provided glasses for everyone. 03:46 Setting Up Equipment We joined a group of people setting up equipment on deck 7 aft. I setup my old phone on a tripod making sure that I placed a filter over the optics. This was used to record the solar videos that you are about to see. 04:19 First Sliver of the Eclipse 05:20 The Diamond Ring & Totality 07:43 Day 6: Sea Day & Deck 16 Day 6 was a sea day which started off similar to the previous sea day - enjoying the quietness of deck 7 and enjoying the burgers at lunch time. In the afternoon, having climbed up to deck 16 for lunch we thought we would give the main pool area a try on a sea day. 08:35 Live Poolside Music It was fine until the live poolside music started, so we moved forward to the adults only area, where you could still hear the performance but it wasn’t so bad. 08:55 Meteor Shower Watch Party That night we joined the meteor shower watch party which had an interesting commentary from our resident experts.
