Thousands of poor families in Visakhapatnam who have been living on government land for decades are set to receive a major relief. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu announced that their long wait for legal ownership rights is coming to an end. According to the Chief Minister, house site pattas are being distributed to 28,445 families in Visakhapatnam. The government is regularising nearly 19,33,853 square yards of land across 11 mandals, with the total value of the land estimated at around ₹8,874 crore. The land regularisation process is not limited to Visakhapatnam. The government is also planning to extend the initiative to other major cities and towns across Andhra Pradesh. In Vijayawada, around 24,000 families are expected to receive full ownership rights over their house sites soon. The government is also examining applications from eligible poor families who have been living for more than ten years on government or assigned lands, with the aim of providing them legal ownership through the relevant government orders and regularisation process. For families who have lived for decades in government lands, village sites, Urban Land Ceiling lands and assigned lands without legal ownership, this initiative is expected to provide greater security and legal recognition. The government says converting these residential spaces into legally recognised assets can also provide long-term financial security for families and future generations. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu described the programme as more than just a house-patta distribution event. He said it represents an important step towards giving thousands of families complete rights over the homes where they have lived for decades.
