Farmers Go Home From Chandigarh, But Punjab’s Protests Continue

At the Chandigarh–Mohali border, Punjab's farmers ended their pakka morch after negotiations with the Punjab government and an agreement on their demands. The tents came down. The langar was packed. Posters were folded, tractors began their journey home, and protesters celebrated before saying goodbye to the people they had spent days living alongside. But for many farmers, ending this particular protest did not mean believing that their larger grievances had been resolved. Meanwhile, farmers in Patiala and other parts of Punjab continued to sit in separate morchas, pressing officials over more immediate issues affecting them on the ground. But across these protest sites, one thing remains common: many farmers say the grievances that brought them to the streets during and after the 2020–21 farmers' movement remain unresolved; and that they are prepared to return to the streets again if necessary.
