A school bus. Your little sister, one foot off the curb, headphones on. And you see it all... ten seconds before it happens. What if you could see 10 seconds into the future? Part 1.
One rule: you only see what your own eyes will see, ten seconds ahead, and only while you're looking. You win at rock, paper, scissors forty-seven times in a row, save every penalty, walk into your own surprise party already pretending to be shocked, and catch a falling glass before anyone turns around. But your brain is now running two timelines at once, and the people you love start to feel it. Then, one Thursday at 3:14, you see something ten seconds ahead that you can't unsee. And at night, your reflection smiles... before you do.
Chapters:
0:00 Cold open: the bus, the shoe and the ball
0:44 The rule: ten seconds ahead
1:18 Monday and Tuesday: fifty-six and paper
2:01 Wednesday: five penalties, five saves
2:53 The price of two timelines
3:38 Ruby, the statue game and the headphones
4:16 Thursday, 3:14
5:06 Stand still
5:53 The truth, and the reflection
What's real:
• Your brain needs roughly a seventh of a second just to recognize what's in front of you, and about a quarter of a second to react to something you see.
• People are not random at rock, paper, scissors: winners tend to repeat their move, losers tend to switch.
• A hard penalty reaches the goal in less than half a second, so goalkeepers have to guess.
• Your brain is about 2% of your body weight but uses about 20% of its energy.
• When scientists repeated the famous "feeling the future" experiments, the effect disappeared. Seeing the future is fiction.
Stay safe: take your headphones off before you cross the road. With music on, even a bus can go quiet.
Why does the reflection move first? Tell us your theory in the comments. Part 2 is coming.
