Fifteen single-best-response glaucoma questions, each with a six-second timer, a
full rationale, a named source, a teardown of all three wrong options, and one
rule to carry into the exam.
This is not a quiz dump. Every question is built around a distractor that
candidates actually pick under time pressure - the ocular hypertensive treated
on the number alone, the prostaglandin started before SLT, the timolol given to
an asthmatic, the fellow eye left untreated after an acute attack, the disc
haemorrhage filed as benign. After each reveal, the three wrong answers are
taken apart one at a time, so you learn the error rather than just the letter.
Topics, in order:
Ocular hypertension: who crosses the treatment threshold
Open-angle glaucoma: SLT before the first drop
Beta-blockers: asthma, bradycardia and heart block
Prostaglandins: iris darkening, lashes and periorbitopathy
Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors and sickle-cell trait
Acute angle closure: the fellow eye needs an iridotomy
Normal-tension glaucoma and the 30% target
Steroid-induced glaucoma: stop the steroid first
Neovascular glaucoma: PRP the ischaemic retina
Pigment dispersion: the NICE SLT exception
Pseudoexfoliation: weak zonules at cataract surgery
Primary congenital glaucoma: operate early
Advanced disease: trabeculectomy with mitomycin C
Disc haemorrhage: a progression marker, not a benign finding
Plateau iris after a patent iridotomy: iridoplasty
Every question closes with a one-line rule, and the outro replays all fifteen.
Every answer card prints its source on screen - NICE NG81, the LiGHT trial,
OHTS, the Collaborative Normal-Tension Glaucoma Study and the AAO EyeWiki - so
you can verify the claim rather than take it on trust.
Where teaching has moved under the author, the video teaches the current
guideline and names the retired version: the reflex to treat every pressure
above 21, the prostaglandin-first habit that predates the 2022 NICE update, and
the belief that a normal pressure excludes glaucoma.
How to use it: pause on the question card, commit to an answer before the timer
runs out, then read the rationale and the teardown. Score yourself out of 15.
Eleven or more is board-ready.
Corrections and source challenges are welcome in the comments - if a citation
does not support the claim, say which one and it gets fixed.
