Yemen's internationally recognized government, through its Ministry of Transportation, stated that the Houthis carried out two strikes using ballistic missiles targeting Aden airport.
In its statement, the Ministry described the attacks as a direct threat to the lives of passengers, as well as to aviation crews and workers.
Footage that was made public by authorities and subsequently shared through local news outlets displayed two craters on the airport runway, both of which had been created by explosions.
Prior to this, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, who serves as the military spokesperson for the Houthis, had called on civilians to leave the airport, asserting that a Saudi military cargo aircraft loaded with weapons was present at the site.
Even so, he offered no evidence of any kind to support that claim.
According to airport employees, Aden's airport stood completely empty once the Houthi warning had been issued.
Not a single staff member or security officer was left on the premises.
Reports indicate that flights departing from Cairo and Mumbai that were headed towards Aden were instead redirected to Seiyun Airport, located in Yemen's Hadramawt province, while a separate flight scheduled to travel to Cairo was called off.
