In this Japanese tea documentary, we’ll explore the world of Japanese tea, meet the farmers behind the leaves and learn how Japanese green tea is grown, processed and prepared. We begin in Tokyo, searching for some of the best Japanese tea shops and seeing how tea fits into modern city life. Then we travel south to Kirishima to visit Mr. Henta at Henta Seicha, where we learn about organic green tea production and the work that goes into crafting high-quality Japan tea. Next, we meet Mr. Sakamoto in Shibushi, a legendary Japanese green tea farmer known for shaded teas like gyokuro. From there, we continue to Takachiho in Miyazaki Prefecture to learn about roasted tea and pan-fired green tea, including kamairicha and hojicha. This part of the tea history shows a different side of Japanese green tea, where local traditions and regional techniques create completely unique flavors. After that, we take a ferry to the island of Yakushima to meet the Watanabe family and see how tea is grown in one of Japan’s most beautiful natural environments. Finally, we travel to Shizuoka to meet Osada Seicha and learn more about one of Japan’s most famous tea-producing regions. Whether you’re interested in a tea documentary, Japan documentary, matcha documentary, Japanese documentary, the history of tea, matcha history, green tea documentary or simply want to follow our quest for tea across Japan, this journey will take you deep into the story of tea in Japan.
