Kashmir Walnut Industry Faces Challenge as Cheaper Chinese Walnuts Flood Market | News18 J&K

Jammu and Kashmir’s walnut industry is facing growing challenges as locally produced walnuts are being sold at around ₹700–800 per kilogram, while Chinese walnuts are available at nearly half the price, around ₹350–400 per kilogram. The significant price gap is making it difficult for local growers and traders to compete with cheaper imports. Traders fear that low-priced Chinese walnuts could put pressure on local walnut prices, reduce farmers’ earnings and impact Kashmir’s traditional walnut industry. Growers and traders are calling for greater support and measures to ensure fair market value for locally produced walnuts.
