22 - Jackson Omilian | All Roads Lead to Beer League Owen sits down with comedian Jackson Omilian for a conversation about stand-up comedy, sports, growing up in small towns, and why bombing on stage might be the best way to keep your ego in check. The two break down the controversy surrounding Shane Gillis' SNL monologue and why Saturday Night Live might no longer be the path to becoming a great stand-up comedian. Jackson talks about getting his start in comedy in Fort Collins, bombing at his first open mic, and learning that making people laugh is a lot harder than it looks. They discuss the grind of writing jokes, finding your voice, building a reliable material, and why Denver has the potential to become one of the best comedy cities in the country. They also get into Boston sports fans, the Colorado Rockies' never-ending struggles, hockey rivalries, and why no matter how far you make it as an athlete, all roads eventually lead to beer league. Owen and Jackson also talk about growing up near ski resorts, small-town bonfires, college drinking games, and why nobody seems to start garage bands anymore. They swap stories about Red Rocks concerts, getting way too drunk in college, and watching a girl throw up her way through an In-N-Out drive-thru. The conversation takes a turn into Idaho's stranger residents, Mormon basketball coaches, overpriced mountain towns, and an encounter with elk that had Owen's girlfriend questioning whether they were going to survive their hike. They close things out with conspiracy theories about Antarctica, the moon landing, the absurdity of sending billionaires to the bottom of the ocean with a video game controller, and why spending ten years getting good at comedy might still be worth it.
