Newton's method for approximating cube roots | Real numbers and limits Math Foundations 84

We discuss cubes, cube roots and the impossibility of finding a cube root of 5 exactly. However Newton's method applies to allow us to find numbers whose cubes are approximately equal to 5. In this case there is also a higher variant which uses tangent conics instead of tangent lines. This lecture is part of the MathFoundations series, which tries to lay out proper foundations for mathematics, and will not shy away from discussing the serious logical difficulties entwined in modern pure mathematics.
