Millions of Americans are switching back to old cars in 2026, and once you see what a new one really costs, it's hard to blame them. The average new vehicle now sells for over $50,000, and that's before the loan paperwork lands on the desk.
In this video I break down why so many families are walking off the lot and driving their old car home instead. There's a number hiding in the typical new-car loan that most buyers never stop to add up, and an industry analyst said something about all this that tells you exactly who's happy with the way things are going. Then there's the question nobody at the dealership wants to touch: are newer cars actually more reliable anymore?
But holding on isn't a free pass either. Used prices and repair bills have their own surprises, so I'll walk through what owners who kept their cars are doing to come out ahead. Prices, loan rates and incentives change constantly and vary by region and lender, so check current numbers where you live.
Tell me in the comments the year, make and mileage of the oldest car you still count on, and subscribe so you hear about the next price jump before a finance manager does.
