Thyagaraja Yoga Vaibhavam | Sandeep Narayan | Vocal | Carnatic Music | The Peninsula Studios Thyagaraja Yoga Vaibhavam is a Sanskrit composition by Muthuswami Dikshitar, the youngest of the Trinity of Carnatic music alongside Tyagaraja and Syama Sastri. Where his contemporaries composed largely in Telugu, Dikshitar wrote almost entirely in Sanskrit — intricate, scholarly, and unmistakably his own, set here in Ragam Anandabhairavi to Rupakam talam. Sandeep Narayan is one of the most sought-after voices in Carnatic music today, and the first American-born and raised musician to relocate to India and take up Carnatic music as a full-time career — a path many aspiring musicians from around the world have since followed. He began his training in the United States with his mother, Smt. Shubha Narayan, before moving to Chennai in 1996 to study under the musicologist Calcutta Sri K. S. Krishnamurthy. Since 1999 he has been among the senior-most disciples of Sangitha Kalanidhi Sri Sanjay Subrahmanyan. In March 2012, Sandeep became the first US-born musician to return to North America as a visiting concert artist from Chennai, and has since performed across Australia, Canada, England, Germany, Singapore, Sri Lanka and the United States. He is joined here by Sumesh Narayanan on mridangam and M. S. Anantha Krishnan on violin. Music Changes Lives. And good music is good music.
