Belize is famous for its expensive Caribbean islands, but if you head inland towards the Guatemalan border, everything changes! 🇧🇿 Welcome to San Ignacio—where the food gets cheaper, the culture shifts to "real" Central America, and the jungle is hiding some of the most incredible Mayan ruins on earth.
In this video, Dave and I are tackling San Ignacio on a budget. We're skipping the overpriced tourist shuttles and taking the local buses to explore the ancient ruins of Xunantunich (watch out for the Stone Woman ghost!) and the hilltop labyrinth of Cahal Pech.
📍 WHAT’S IN THIS VIDEO:
🐒 WILDLIFE & RUINS
Taking the hand-cranked river ferry to Xunantunich, climbing to the top of "El Castillo" for views over Guatemala, and exploring the ancient elite mansions of Cahal Pech. Plus, we drop some expert facts on Geoffroy's Spider Monkeys (they have no thumbs!), Maya glyphs, and spot a Golden-fronted Woodpecker!
🥑 CHEAP VEGAN FOOD IN BELIZE
After spending a fortune on the coast, we finally found budget eats! We’re eating our body weight in bean pupusas, watching fresh tortillas get made on a conveyor belt, and eating vegan fry jacks and tacos for breakfast.
