Maggie rents a little off-grid cabin at the top of a mountain road in Colorado for a quiet weekend. No power lines, just a generator, a wood stove and an old guestbook on the shelf. On her first night, a November blizzard buries the road. By morning her car will not start, there is no signal, and the only advice she has is a note left in that guestbook in nineteen eighty three. Count the gas, not the food. Then, at two in the morning, a stranger with a broken ankle knocks on her door, and his friend is still out there somewhere in the snow. Seven days, two of her mistakes coming back to cost her, a generator that almost kills them both, and one last gallon of gas that has to choose between heat and a chance at rescue. If you were snowed in tonight, what would run out first? My book, the Urban Survival Handbook (power, heat, water, carbon monoxide, stay or go), printable, about ten dollars: https://urbansurvivalhandbook.netlify... What Maggie carried: Daypack: headlamp, pocket knife, lighter, first aid kit, paracord Car kit: folding shovel, wool blanket, hand warmers, 2 bottles of water, food bars Phone (no signal) What she was missing: Battery powered carbon monoxide alarm This is a fictional scenario. The safety guidance is real, but it is not a substitute for official advice from your local emergency services.
