SURVIVOR UK 2023 | THE BBC REVIVAL Twenty-two years after Survivor first arrived on British television, the game was finally back. In 2023, the BBC revived Survivor UK, bringing the format back to Britain for the first time since ITV’s original two-season run in 2001 and 2002. This time, 18 British contestants were marooned on the tropical coast of the Dominican Republic, with the season filmed in the María Trinidad Sánchez Province. The contestants would spend 34 days in the game, living on remote beaches, building their own shelters, competing in physical and mental challenges and voting each other out at Tribal Council. The series premiered on BBC One on 28 October 2023, with the final airing on 16 December 2023. Across 16 episodes, viewers followed the contestants as they battled for the title of Sole Survivor and a £100,000 prize. THE HOST — JOEL DOMMETT Taking on the role of host was comedian and television presenter Joel Dommett. Joel became the third presenter of Survivor UK, following Mark Austin and John Leslie in 2001 and Mark Nicholas in 2002. As host, Joel guided the contestants through their challenges, Tribal Councils and the twists that would shape the game, becoming the face of the BBC’s new era of Survivor. CALETÓN — The Orange Tribe. The first starting tribe was Caletón, with the tribe represented by the colour orange. As the contestants battled for survival, tribe switches and new combinations forced them to adapt, rethink their alliances and decide who they could trust. Eventually, the two tribes came together at the merge, where the game changed from a battle between tribes into an individual fight for a place at the end. With challenges, alliances, blindsides, Tribal Councils and plenty of surprises along the way, Survivor UK 2023 marked the beginning of a completely new chapter for the British version of the franchise.
