Thomas Dambo’s giant recycled wood trolls are at Aullwood Audubon Center in Dayton, Ohio! This was our first visit, and we walk you through everything: parking, the Nature Center, the hike to the trolls, and the farm.
Is it worth the trip with kids? Here’s our honest family review. 👇
📍 LOCATION
Aullwood Audubon Center and Farm
1000 Aullwood Rd.
Dayton, Ohio 45414
💵 COST: General admission is free for children 3 and under
$9.00 for children 4 to 12
$13.00 for adults 13 to 64
$11.00 for seniors age 65 and over, active duty military members, and veterans with military ID.
Members of Friends of Aullwood (their support group), the National Audubon Society, and ANCA-affiliated organizations receive free admission with a membership card. Special events can have different fees and arrangements.
🅿️ PARKING: very easy and accessible (and free) at both the Nature Center and the Farm.
🚻 RESTROOMS: Located in both the Nature Center and the Farm. Well maintained, clean, and the Nature Center women's room has beautiful murals painted on stall doors (I would assume the men's room does too).
👨👩👦 BEST FOR: Hikers who are capable of walking wooded trails. Not suitable for strollers, but hiking carriers work! Make sure you take water with you, it's more than a stroll on flat trails.
⏳ HOW LONG WE SPENT: We took a leisurely stroll, allowing time for taking in the beauty around us. It's a beautifully wooded area, great trails, and the trolls are much better in person than on video! You will need at least two hours if you are doing the entire hike without the shortcut of driving from the Nature Center to the Farm to see the third troll.
👥 CROWDS: We went on a beautiful fall Friday in the end of October, early afternoon. We got there as two school buses were leaving, we assumed from a field trip. There were very few people in the building as well as the trails, we saw about 8-10 people the whole time. We actually went back the next day, which was a Saturday, and it was very noticeably busier. Thankfully we filmed on Friday, since we do our best not to get other people in our video. If you are simply going for a hike and not trying to film like we were, seeing other people on the trails won't be an issue.
⭐ FAMILY SCORECARD
We give Aullwood and Dambo's Trolls 10 out of 10!
