In March 1926, land promoter Ace Borger struck a deal after oil was discovered in the Texas Panhandle, and within just 90 days, over 45,000 fortune-seekers flooded into the brand-new town that bore his name. 🛢️💰 But prosperity brought chaos: Mayor John Miller installed "Two-Gun Dick" Herwig, a man under indictment for murder, as the town's chief law officer, and Dixon Street became a nonstop strip of brothels, gambling dens, speakeasies, and moonshine stills, all operating with the blessing of city hall. 🎰🥃 Murders and robberies became so routine that Texas Rangers, including the legendary Frank Hamer (who would later hunt down Bonnie and Clyde), were sent in twice to try to clean the place up. 🤠🔫 When District Attorney John Holmes was assassinated in 1929, Governor Dan Moody had finally seen enough — he declared martial law, sent in the National Guard, and forced the entire corrupt city government, including the mayor and sheriff, to resign. 📜⚖️ In this video, we trace the wild rise and dramatic military takedown of the town locals called "Booger Town."
