OpenBVE NYC: R38 60th Anniversary run on the (F) line in 1966 !

60 years ago today, the St. Louis Car R38 entered service on the IND Queens Blvd Line. Following the R32, the R38 was the second mass produced stainless steel cars for the NYC Subway, and also the first replacement rolling stock for the IND division since it's debut in 1932. The R38's were rebuilt between 1987 and 1988 like many other R-types as part of the General Overhaul program, and retired in March of 2009 on the (C) line. Despite being assigned to the IND (E) and (F) lines during their early years, and to the IND (A) and (C) for half of their life, the R38s still made their way onto many other IND and even BMT lines throughout the 1970s, such as the (B), (D), (G), (H), (N), (Q) and (R) lines, and also the Franklin Avenue Shuttle. Some even made their way onto the BMT Eastern Division (M) line at one point ! The R38's were one of the most underappreciated subway cars of the B division rolling stock, probably because there were only 200 of them and all ran on the (A) and (C) lines. But these were one of the most unique cars because they featured a more modern, sleeker version of the older arched roof & straight side design, with rounded edges, re-designed headlights and end roofs; all while preserving that classic look. This was pretty much symbolizing the departure from the older design to something new, and the future R40 order would prove this statement. Despite their attractive appearance (which they have slightly lost after their overhaul), the R38's didn't last as long as the R32's and retired in 2009 along with the R40's, R44's and most of R-42s due to structural issues. In this video, we are going back to August 23rd, 1966, when two sets debuted on the (E) and (F) lines. We will take control of the one on the (F) line. The R38 consist has been accurately recreated with the exact cars that debuted on the (F) that day : (North) 3957-6 / 3961-0 / 3954-5 / 3966-7 / 3962-3 (South) This is also the Pre-Chrystie Street Connection version of the (F) line, when it ran from Broadway/Lafayette (originally 2nd Avenue before construction began) or 34th Street to 179th Street Jamaica. The route has also been faithfully recreated with 100% accurate signalling according to official 1960s-1970s B Division signal diagrams. Unfortunately, there are no TFO trains during the run because it is too much work.
