Exploring the NEW Mote SEA Aquarium | Sarasota, Florida

Whenever we’re in Sarasota and need a break from the beach, or Florida decides to give us a rainy day, Mote Aquarium has always been one of our favorite places to visit. But this time, Mote looks a little different! We’re exploring the newly opened Mote Science Education Aquarium, Mote SEA, in Sarasota, Florida. Mote Marine Laboratory has been conducting marine research since 1955, when it began as the Cape Haze Marine Laboratory in Placida, Florida. It was later renamed in honor of William R. Mote and his family, whose support helped the organization grow both in size and scientific reputation. Today, Mote scientists conduct marine research throughout southwest Florida, the Florida Keys, and around the world, and Mote SEA gives visitors a chance to see that science brought to life. Come along with us as we explore the new aquarium, check out some of our favorite exhibits, see how it compares to the Mote Aquarium we remember, and spend a day discovering what the new Mote SEA has to offer.
