Learn how to add more yarn or change colors while weaving on a pocket loom with this easy, beginner-friendly tutorial from Weaving Calm.
In this quiet, close-up demonstration, you'll see how to join a new length of yarn to your weaving without bulky knots or overlapping threads. Use this simple technique whenever you run out of yarn, want to introduce a new color, or experiment with different yarn textures.
*How to Do It:*
1. *Finish in the middle of a row.* Weave to approximately the middle of your row, ending with your needle passing under a warp thread. Leave the remaining warp threads in that row unworked, and remove your needle or cut the yarn, leaving a 1–2 inch tail.
2. *Thread your new yarn.* Choose your next color or another length of the same yarn and thread it through your weaving needle.
3. *Continue weaving.* Bring the needle up from beneath the woven area, leaving a 1–2 inch tail at the back. Begin with the next warp thread, passing over it, and continue weaving across the row.
4. *Keep weaving.* Continue weaving as usual with your new yarn.
*Helpful Tips:*
*Leave a little extra yarn:* Keep a 1–2 inch tail from both the old and new yarns. You can tie or weave these ends in to secure them after removing your finished piece from the loom.
*Avoid bulky joins:* Ending one yarn and beginning another in the middle of a row, without overlapping them, helps maintain an even appearance and prevents the warp threads from becoming visible at the join.
*Change colors or textures anytime:* This same method works whether you're adding more of the same yarn, switching colors, or introducing a different texture into your weaving.
