Michael Nyman - The Departure | Past DNA ReMaster

The Departure is one of those compositions where repetition becomes emotion, and where a simple musical pattern becomes a reflection on what defines us. Composed for Gattaca by Michael Nyman, this theme is built around an endless movement, a hypnotic loop that constantly pushes forward. Its simplicity hides a deeper question: are we only the sum of our genetic predispositions, or can we transcend what they seem to define? The title Past DNA Mix holds a double meaning. It refers to DNA as a code inherited from the past, a biological blueprint that influences who we are supposed to become. But it also reflects the desire to move beyond what seems predetermined, to transcend what seems predetermined, beyond our genetic profile, our environment or society's expectations. For this reinterpretation, I had to reshape Michael Nyman's unique musical structure into a format designed for electronic music. The original theme does not naturally follow traditional 16, 32 or 64-bar patterns, yet its endless flow had to be preserved while giving it a new pulse. This mix becomes a dialogue between two forms of DNA: the original identity of the composition and the new structure created around it. Every note was reconstructed from scratch, without using a single sample from the original recording. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Chapters 00:00 Ready to Depart 00:14 Hidden Traces 01:58 A Familiar Presence 03:00 First Ascent 04:18 Between Worlds 05:13 Beyond DNA 06:24 Echoes of the Past 07:37 Out of Reach ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Continue the journey Motion Mixture was conceived as a single musical journey. That experience provided invaluable feedback and led me to revisit Motion Mixture as a whole.
