KosMos Domain turns one of the strangest stories from the early Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared Kickstarter into “FRAUD!” — an original Indie Garage-Punk song about generosity, good intentions, terrible financial decisions, and the triumphant acquisition of a free T-shirt.
Crunchy guitars, bouncing bass, pounding drums, sharp stops, playful riffs, and a huge gleeful “FRAUD! FRAUD! CREDIT CARD FRAUD!” hook tell the story from the perspective of an absurdly enthusiastic fan who is absolutely convinced they are doing a wonderful thing — even though none of the money is actually theirs.
✨ In this visualizer:
Kos and Mos have put together the most lovingly overprepared punk-rock charity fundraiser imaginable.
The community hall is covered in handmade bunting, paper chains, photocopied gig flyers, balloons, punk hearts, lightning bolts, and homemade decorations. Behind them, a tiny stage waits with a drum kit, amps, microphones, and a crooked PUNK ROCK FOR A GOOD CAUSE! banner.
Kos and Mos stand behind a long merch table overflowing with badges, stickers, bracelets, raffle tickets, flyers, and other homemade treasures. A box of FREE WITH DONATION! T-shirts sits ready for the rush, while the transparent donation bucket in the middle of the table remains completely, spectacularly empty.
And there is nobody there.
Rows of empty chairs stretch toward the stage. The T-shirts remain unsold. The refreshments are untouched. Even the plain cupcakes and coffee on the side table are waiting patiently for guests who apparently never existed.
None of this seems to bother Kos or Mos in the slightest. They are still smiling, talking, and happily running their fundraiser as though the evening has been an enormous success — which feels completely appropriate for a song where the money disappears but somebody still walks away delighted with a free shirt.

Credits / Inspiration
This is an original fan-made song inspired by the real story of fraudulent pledges made during the 2014 Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared Kickstarter campaign.
In a 2014 Dazed interview, Becky Sloan described how a sudden group of large pledges pushed the campaign over its goal, only for the creators to discover that hacked credit card numbers had been used. Kickstarter removed the fraudulent pledges, but Sloan still found something strangely touching in the fact that somebody had gone to such ridiculous lengths to fund more puppet films — and jokingly offered the culprit a T-shirt.
The original Kickstarter updates captured the same bewildered tone, first announcing that there appeared to have been “a little bit of credit card fraud”, then confirming the money had been removed and later celebrating when the campaign finally succeeded with real pledges.

📝 Concept
Rather than retelling the incident from the creators’ point of view, “FRAUD!” invents an impossibly cheerful fan on the other side of the transaction.
They see a fundraiser, feel generous, and immediately decide that having no money of their own should not prevent them from becoming a philanthropist. The total climbs, everybody cheers, and our narrator becomes increasingly pleased with their own enormous giving heart.
When people start checking the numbers and asking uncomfortable questions, even that gets interpreted positively: “It’s wonderful to move them — in a way… it’s nice!” The joke is that every warning sign becomes further evidence that the charitable mission is going brilliantly.
Eventually all the money disappears again, but the narrator refuses to accept defeat. The kindness was real, the experience was enjoyable, and — most importantly — there is still the possibility of getting something tangible out of the whole disaster.
That finally pays off with the song’s great moral victory:
I GOT A FREE T-SHIRT!
Musically, the joke is played completely straight as a huge, infectious indie garage-punk celebration: crunchy guitar riffs, thick melodic bass, hard-hitting drums, danceable punk momentum, a bright mid-song guitar solo, and increasingly ridiculous victory chants.
If you enjoy DHMIS, scrappy punk rock, strange behind-the-scenes stories, cheerful bad decisions, and original songs inspired by the creators’ interviews, leave a comment and let me know what Kos and Mos should tackle next.
