What happens when a relatively small kingdom rises to control a vast portion of the ancient world?
The Persian Empire became one of antiquity’s greatest imperial powers, beginning with Cyrus the Great and expanding under rulers such as Cambyses II, Darius I, and Xerxes I. From the Iranian plateau to Babylon, Egypt, Anatolia, and the Aegean, the Achaemenid Empire brought an extraordinary number of peoples and cultures under one royal system.
In this cinematic historical documentary, we explore how Persia rose from a regional kingdom into a vast empire—and how it managed to govern such an enormous and diverse territory. We’ll follow Cyrus the Great’s conquests, the fall of Babylon, Darius’s administrative reforms, the Royal Road, Persian wealth and trade, the construction of Persepolis, and the famous conflicts with Greece.
We’ll also examine the empire’s eventual confrontation with Alexander the Great and the fall of the Achaemenid dynasty.
This is the story of power, conquest, administration, and ambition in the ancient Persian world.
