Which grocery stores should you never buy rotisserie chicken from, and which ones are actually worth it? We looked at 5 rotisserie chickens worth thinking twice about. Each one is ranked by the gap between how much shoppers trust it and what the evidence actually shows. Then we reveal the 3 that earned their place.
Here’s the question that started it all: why would the biggest warehouse store in America sell you a hot, cooked chicken for less than the raw one? Because that cheap chicken isn’t dinner. It’s bait.
What we found changes how the whole rotisserie case looks. America’s most famous $4.99 chicken was hit with two class action lawsuits in 2026. One store’s chicken lists more than 20 ingredients. Another bird can contain up to 17% added solution. Two retailers had the highest levels of a plastic chemical in Consumer Reports’ 2026 testing. One parent company sells both a chicken on our avoid list and the chicken that won that test. And only one chain wasn’t brining its birds at all.
By the end of this video, you’ll know which 5 rotisserie chickens to skip, which 3 to buy instead, and the label check that takes 5 seconds at the deli counter.
