India’s Green Revolution: From Food Scarcity to Self-Sufficiency.
#description
India’s Green Revolution changed the country’s food system.
A nation that once faced severe food shortages built a new agricultural model around research, high-yielding crop varieties, irrigation, fertilizer, agricultural extension, markets, government procurement and the work of millions of farmers.
But every transformation creates new questions.
Can a high-production agricultural system also protect groundwater, soil health, crop diversity and the future of small farmers?
This Pakistani Urdu documentary follows India’s Green Revolution from its origins in the 1960s to the next phase of sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture.
The film examines:
India’s journey from food scarcity toward food self-sufficiency
The role of ICAR, agricultural research and improved crop varieties
The High-Yielding Variety Programme and the agricultural policy system
The contribution of irrigation, fertilizer, markets, extension and farmers
Why Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh became central to the rice-wheat system
Why the benefits of the Green Revolution were not identical in every region
Groundwater and soil-health challenges linked to intensive agriculture
The need for crop diversity, water efficiency and location-specific solutions
India’s National Mission on Natural Farming and the search for a more sustainable future
The documentary uses realistic 3D illustrative reconstructions. The scenes are visual explanations and are not archival recordings of specific historical events. The narration is in Pakistani Urdu with two alternating synthetic documentary voices. The background music is an original procedural composition created for this film; no commercial song or third-party music recording was intentionally used.
