Daniel has a vision after three weeks of fasting and prayer. He sees a glorious heavenly messenger whose appearance is dazzling and powerful. The messenger explains that his arrival was delayed because of a spiritual conflict involving the “prince of Persia,” but that Michael came to help him. The messenger strengthens Daniel, who is overwhelmed by the vision, and tells him that he has come to reveal what will happen to Daniel’s people in the future. This chapter serves as an introduction to the prophetic revelations that continue in Chapters 11 and 12.
