Some think that Zulfiqar Khan destroyed it when he captured Raigad fort after death of Chatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. But it is wrong assumption. If Zulfiqar Khan had found that throne he would have presented it to Aurangazeb, who certainly would have made a great event of it to show that he had crushed Maraths Kingdom but that never happened . In fact Zulfiqar Khan never found it as probably it was hidden by Rajaram Maharaj as that throne was auspicious to Marathas & sign of their freedom & strength for their freedom struggle, somewhere on Raigad itself before he left for Jinji fort, he knew that Mughals will capture fort and throne was too heavy to carry it out of fort, also with Mughal army widespread all over Maharashtra it wasn't safe to carry huge throne anywhere. So it was hidden on Raigad only with knowledge of it with Rajaram Maharaj & maybe few of his loyal assistants who hoped that they will became strong again & free Maharastra from Mughals or maybe Aurangazeb will return someday back to Delhi and they will come back. But unfortunately Rajaram Maharaj died at young age and when he died none of his family was near him. Another thing is Rajaram Maharaj always considered Shahu Maharaj ( son of Sambhaji Maharaj) as rightful heir to throne, but he was in imprisonment of Aurangazeb & his chances of getting freedom were almost nill at time of Rajaram Maharajs death. So probably he didn't tell anyone location of throne and it remained in its hidden place. Later on Raigad lost its importance as Shahu Maharaj made Satara his capital & Kolhapur was capital for another branch of Chatrapati family ( Rajaram Maharaj's family). So now nobody knows where the throne is, but certainly it wasn't destroyed by Mughals neither by British. -------------------- Its unknown. Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj's throne was the most beautiful throne which was studded with precious stones and gold. The crown weighed about 1280 KG. After Rajaram ascended the throne in 1689, fort of Raigad was attacked and captured by Mughals. Aurangzeb had heard about the golden throne and told his soldiers to bring it to him as a trophy of war but the Mughal soldiers couldn't find it anywhere. Also when Rajaram escaped, it wasn't possible for him to immediately carry the throne with him. Its a mystery as to what happened to the throne and where it could be or who has it. But because it wasn't there when Mughal soldiers arrived, its highly likely that the Marathas hid the throne or maybe some Maratha soldiers took it with them for safe keeping. Or did Mughal commander lied to Aurangzeb about the throne not being there and he kept it for himself? But wouldn't other loyal soldiers have informed Aurangzeb about it? Also if the commander took it for himself, where did he hide it? He certainly couldn't have taken it for himself back up North with all the Mughal soldiers knowing about it. Or did Aurangzeb really have it and he kept in his treasury but it was sold or gifted to other foreign emperor. Or was it one of the loot taken by Nadir Shah in 1739 back to Persia. But this is the most weakest theory because all Mughal Emperors proudly displayed their trophy of war and Aurangzeb wouldn't have stayed silent or secretive about it. But these are just assumptions and theory about where the throne could be. But considering the size and weight of the throne, its a very strange mystery on its whereabouts.
