Forgiveness sounds beautiful in the abstract. But what happens when the hurt has a face, a history, and a debt that can never truly be repaid? In Matthew 18:21–35, Jesus tells the parable of the unforgiving servant—a man released from an unimaginable debt who then refuses mercy to someone who owes him far less. In this sermon, Logan Shields explores the vastness of God’s mercy toward us and the difficult call to extend that mercy to others. What does it really mean to forgive from the heart? Does forgiveness require reconciliation? What about betrayal, abuse, or wounds that can never be undone? Christian forgiveness does not pretend the hurt was insignificant, nor does it require remaining in an unsafe relationship. Instead, it means surrendering our claim to vengeance and placing justice into the hands of the King. The mercy we have received in Christ changes the way we hold the debts of others. “The King has opened the prison…and He invites you into new life.” Scripture: Matthew 18:21–35
