How Dumb is Every Sonic Character

The Sonic the Hedgehog franchise is defined by incredibly fast gameplay, but its colorful cast of characters spans a surprisingly wide spectrum of raw intellect. The upper echelon is dominated by certified geniuses and brilliant engineers, led by the erratic 300 IQ villain Doctor Eggman, his tragic predecessor Professor Gerald Robotnik, and the remarkably intuitive AI assistant Sage. Eight-year-old prodigy Miles "Tails" Prower serves as the brilliant mechanic behind the heroes' most crucial technology, while tactical operatives like Rouge the Bat and the highly disciplined Espio the Chameleon rely on sharp intuition to outwit their opponents. On the other end of the intelligence spectrum, many fan-favorite characters are defined by their complete lack of critical thinking and reckless impulsivity. Sonic himself often ignores strategy in favor of rushing headfirst into disaster, while his rival Knuckles the Echidna is notoriously gullible, falling for Dr. Eggman's obvious deceptions in nearly every encounter. Further down the list, characters like the painfully oblivious tutorial robot Omochao, the glitching henchman Cubot, and the dim-witted albatross Storm actively hinder their allies with pure incompetence. Ultimately, exploring the intellectual capabilities of this expansive roster reveals why the fastest things alive often make the most frustratingly obvious mistakes.
