The Missouri Sedimentation Action Coalition held its 25th Annual Membership meeting at the Vermillion (SD) Public Library. The recording includes the full meeting including the keynote presentation by Tim Cowman, who discussed how the Missouri River acts as an important source of recharge to the Missouri aquifer, which is a source of ground water for cities, a regional water system, and a large number of irrigation wells. Cowman is State Geologist and Administrator of the South Dakota Geological Survey, which is a Program in the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Impacts of bed degradation below Gavins Point Dam on the river, floodplain, and aquifer will also be explored in Cowman’s presentation, entitled “River-Aquifer Interactions on the Missouri River Floodplain.” At the beginning of the meeting, attendees heard an update from Shane Kinne, Executive Director of the Coalition to Protect the Missouri River. Josh Olson, state project manager at the Kansas Water Office, informed attendees about the Water Injection Dredging Demonstration Project at Tuttle Creek Lake. Scott Kostal, Executive Director of MSAC, and Mary Hurd, MSAC Board President, updated attendees on MSAC's activities and looked to 2027.
