Lord Ganesha's favourite, modak sweet is a rice flour dumpling stuffed with coconut, jaggery, elaichi powder and ghee. Here is a steamed modak recipe shown in 4 different ways.
This sweet is offered to Lord ganesha as prasad/naivedyam during Ganesh Chathurthi pooja. Most of them also make these for Sankasti Chathurthi pooja every month. Lord ganesha loves modak, hence he is also called as 'Modakpriya'
I have shown 4 ways of making modak.
First one is made using modak mould, which is the easiest one out of all
Second one is made using Spoon edges, which can be made, if you do not have modak mould and if you are a beginner.
Third one is made using Fork, which can be made, if you do not have modak mould and if you are a beginner.
Fourth one is the traditional method made with hands, the pleating and the stuffing are done using hands. You may need some practice to pleat those to get a perfect shape.
INGREDIENTS
==============
MODAK DOUGH
--------------------------
Water - 1cup
Salt - 1/2tsp
Ghee - 1/2tsp
Rice Flour- 1cup
MODAK STUFFING
------------------------------
Sesame Seeds (Yellu) Black - 2tsp
Coconut (Grated) - 1cup
Jaggery - 1/2cup
Elaichi Powder - 1/2tsp
Note
=====
You can experiment with the stuffing of modak as per your liking, from chocolate, nuts, khoya to dry fruits, add whatever suits your preference.
Sesame seeds is optional
Do not add water while preparing stuffing mixture
While making dough, do not use very less water as they will result in the dough being dry and having cracks. Add water accordingly
Do not use too much ghee while pressing the sides of modak.
Do not flatten the dough too thin or too thick. A thin dough will tear while shaping and a thick dough will take more time to cook and will taste doughy and unpleasant.
