Only 27% of employees strongly agree they believe in their company's values — and I think I know why. A value on a wall isn't a decision. It's a decoration.
In this episode I tell you about the company I left after three months, why it wasn't bravery, and the one thing I'd decided years before that room existed. Then I walk you through what a non-negotiable actually is (a decision you made before the room, not in it), the ten-second test for whether you have any, and three steps to set yours: make it three and make it specific, test each one against a cost, and tell one person.
I'm not perfect at this. Anybody who worked for me will tell you I had hard days. But you get to decide how you show up — every single day — and the people around you can tell whether you have.
If this helped, send it to a woman who's in a room asking her to renegotiate something she already decided.
